Argentina has a vast diversity of geography, climates, and cultures. Geography ranges from hundreds of miles of coastline, through beautiful countryside, up to enormous mountainous regions. The climate in the north of the country is warm and beautiful year round, and in the southernmost part of the country has bitter winters, and treacherous shorelines abutting the Straits of Magellan. Culture is also very diverse. Argentina boasts of its rich history stemming through immigration from around the world. Argentina's massive cultural movement includes fine cuisine, classic literature, theater, beautiful architecture and various genres of music.


MUSIC OF ARGENTINA

Argentina has many different types of music. Like all other countries, the music is a way of defining who you are, and connecting yourself with others in your specific culture. Argentine music has its roots in folklore dating back to before the Spaniards first arrived in the 1500's. From there you get the different types of Folk hereditary to Argentina

Folk Music includes -

- Andean music originates from the northern mountainous regions of the country and reflect spirituality associated with the land. The sounds of the music includes percussion, string and wind instruments.
- Chacarera music began in the country, as it's name is derived from the spanish word "chacra" meaning 'farm.' Over the years, it gained popularity, and began its immigration into popular culture in and around the large cities.
- Chamamé music started in the northeastern corner of Argentina with the Guarani people, and is played on the accordian. This area was prevalent with eastern European immigrants, and Polkas, Mazurkas, and the Waltz were popular music in Europe at the time. This style music is mixed with the Spanish styles already in the area, and the hybrid of musical style became known as Chamamé.

Popular music is another genre of music in Argentina and is composed of many styles of more modern roots, including Argentine Rock, Pop music, and the Tango.

Art music of Argentina is what this website is mostly focused upon. This music includes Jazz and Classical music.

Argentine Jazz Music
comes in many different forms, including be-bop, straight-ahead, and Latin jazz. It is based on the 'new tango' style of music that was made popular by Astor Piazzolla in the beginning years of his musical career. Jazz often includes multiple variants of instruments including wind, string, percussion, and voice. Argentine Jazz can be played as a solo, or can be performed by a large orchestra.

Classical Music is vastly popular across the globe, and this is no different in Argentina. The music often includes a large orchestra with full assortment of instruments. The Classical Music in Argentina often accompanies classical style with rhythms and sounds unique to Argentina. The Colón Opera House in Buenos Aires is one of the largest and most prestigious opera houses in Latin America, and is home to the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra.
